I have been seeing him for eight months.
Q: Do you remember what your first appointment with him was like?
Yes, I do. When I walked into the office, and he said, “Hello, I’m Dr. V.” I said, “Hi, my name is Diane,” and he said, “What brings you here?” I said, “I’m fat, and I need help. I don’t know what to do. I keep eating and eating.” Over time, the weight had just piled up on me, and I didn’t know what to do.

He gave me a diet plan, followed the diet plan, and it worked. Then eight months later, I started at 220 pounds, and I’m at 166 now. That’s Dr. V. We call him Dr. V. Two hundred twenty pounds, trust me. My whole life, I was never prominent. I was going through some things, but not realizing the weight came on, but in a year I have 80 pounds, that’s ridiculous. It’s fast food, Dunkin’ Donuts, a lot of sweets. I like a lot of candy, a lot of things, and it was not even like me, because I wasn’t even into food all the time, chocolate, ice cream.
The funny thing is, I noticed I was getting bloated and I was like, “I gain a few pounds,” not realizing easy just put the sweats on, put the sweats on. Then you say, “This is hanging. This is hanging.” The funny thing is, I never looked fat. I didn’t even look fat. Nobody believed that I was 220 pounds.

Q: Goodness, that’s a huge difference.
It is. It gives me chills because I couldn’t believe that I was at 220 pounds.
Q: How different is it like just getting up?
I feel like I have a lot of energy. I feel like I look way better, thank God for that, and you want to be healthy overall. It’s not even about looking good; you want to be healthy inside and knowing that you feel good about yourself. That’s all.
Q: Has the way that you’re eating changed?
Yes, he put me on a first schedule, which was a more regular schedule instead of eating donuts and ice cream. You can cheat, but you’ve got to eat healthily. You’ve got to eat vegetables, you’ve got to have fruits, you’ve got to eat all the proper foods and not the wrong foods. Going my direction was regularly eating fast foods, eating stuff that was not good for me, and the weight piles on very, very fast.
That weight piled up because I used to weigh about 140 pounds. Within a year and a half, I almost gained that much, over 80 pounds. It was pretty fast.
Q: How is the weight program affected the kinds of food that you crave?
What happened was, I like a lot of sweets. That’s the problem. When you eat a lot of sweets, the weight comes faster. I had to explain that to the doctor, and he told me, “You need to start eating a lot of things like wheat and fruits, vegetable, poultry and stay away from the carbs and the starches.” When I eliminated those from my diet, I’ve seen a lot of weight just come off. That’s basically what it was.
Q: Fantastic. What other things did you try before you came to see Dr. V?
I didn’t try anything. I didn’t try anything. As I said, I was eating and not realizing I looked to see what type of doctor or nutritionist. I wasn’t sure, and he popped up on my phone at home on the internet, and I said, “You know what? Let me check this guy out,” and came in, and that was it. I said, “I’ll give it a try,” and eight months later, I’m now 166 pounds. I’m ecstatic, I’m happy, and I’m still got to get on my goal, which is about 140 pounds.
Q: How important is it to you that he’s more than a weight loss doctor, that he’s an actual medical doctor?
He’s a phenomenal doctor. Number one, he’s lovely, he guides you, he’s very strict too. He’s not here to play any games, and you could see he’s sincere and he’s here to help. That’s the main thing that he’s not just a doctor because a lot of doctors, sometimes they don’t care. He puts his care into this and make sure that you’re on track and make sure you do what you’re supposed to be doing. He’s a phenomenal guy, love him to death.
Q: Actually, he makes me laugh every time I talk to him. Last question, what would you say to someone who is on the fence and back and forth about getting started with this project?
Well, the best advice I could give to anyone is basically, keep your mind open and be true to yourself and stick to it. Don’t get off track, stick to your goal if that’s what you want to do, you want to lose weight, lose it. Don’t say, “I’m going to do it,” and then not do it. Then when Monday comes, “Monday, I’ll start again.” It doesn’t happen like that; just keep continuing what you’re doing. Just make it your priority to lose the weight that you need to lose so that you could be healthy. That’s all I could say.
